Letchworth Garden City Eagles 2 - 2 Amersham Town
There was a roller coaster ride for the Amersham supporters. At two nil to the good Town seemed to be in charge whilst, with fifteen minutes to go, they were prepared to settle for the point.
The games started well for Amersham. They gave Letchworth little time on the ball and took the lead after nine minutes. A beautifully flighted free kick from the left was met by the on-rushing Kyle Clifford who nodded the cross firmly into the net. Amersham continued to press and created the majority of chances. Harry Bennett shot just wide when put through whilst a Charlie Line shot from thirty yards required a full length save from Dan Weaver in the Letchworth goal.
It was inevitable that Letchworth would come out with far more drive and commitment after the break and so it proved. Charlie Thake had a strong snap shot but Town keeper, Zak Green, was well positioned. On fifty nine minutes, however, Amersham increased their lead. An Ollie Regan corner from the left was headed out to Harry Bennett. His volley flew past the startled Weaver. But, as they tired on a heavy pitch, Town were finding it more difficult to win the ball and a number of passes were going astray. Six minutes later a Letchworth corner was not cleared and the ball fell to River Amis who poked home. It was now Letchworth who were creating the majority of half chances and a long cross from the left bounced off the bar and out. They equalised with fifteen minutes to play when their forward broke to the by-line on the left and crossed. Thake miscued the ball which ballooned into the air and into the net over the head of the wrong footed Green. Town almost won it at the death when a goal bound Bennett drive was diverted over by a Letchworth defender.
