London Tigers 2 - 3 Amersham Town
Spartan South Midlands League: Division One Cup, 1st Round.
It is rare that, with five goals and a winner in the ninety third minute, a match can be described as tedious but this one managed it. In a bad-tempered game beset by frequent stoppages the football rarely flowed.
London Tigers took the lead after only three minutes. A free kick from just outside the area was floated into the six yard box and Tiger’s Mohamed Abdi got behind the defence to knock the ball past Zak Green in the Amersham goal. In a game largely devoid of meaningful incidents Tigers increased their lead seventeen minutes later. A ball down the middle found Amir Hadi twenty five yard out and his long low shot beat Green to nestle in the corner of the net.
Amersham were struggling to make an impact but produced some excellent football and a goal quite out of keeping with the rest of the fare to pull one back before the break. A long pass down the left found Kyle Duncan-Johnson who carried it forward and put in a pin-point cross which Harry Bennett did well to head home wide of the diving Sebastian Barford.
The second half proceeded in much the same fashion as the first except that is was Amersham who scored early in the half, again from a free kick. The ball across the area seemed to be going wide of the far post when Ayodeji Ikusemori stretched to loop a header over Barford and into the far corner of the goal.
The game was drifting towards penalties when Town struck the winner. Charlie Line chased a ball played across the area and managed to pull it back across the Tigers goal. Amersham substitute Alfie Hall had anticipated well and his scuffed shot was perfectly placed to nestle just inside the post.
