Amersham Town 6: Enfield Borough 3.
Updated: Nov 24, 2019
The last time Amersham Town scored six goals in a league match was twelve months ago against Hatfield Town. They deserved the victory, albeit assisted by some errant goalkeeping. They moved the ball forward quickly on the greasy surface, crossing early and their speedy forwards caused the Enfield defence constant problems.
Amersham’s first goal arrived after only six minutes. A defence splitting pass from Seldyn Grant released Reon Thomas but Jamil Shallo in the Enfield goal made a fine save to touch the shot round the post. From the resulting corner the ball flew across the goal and was then returned towards the near post where Shallo was unable to gather, enabling Alec Wallace to knock home his first Amersham goal.
Twelve minutes later Enfield scored two goals within a minute. First former Amersham player Richard Ajayi won the ball in defence and hit the ball down the centre of the pitch enabling Bruno Tavare to run on and beat Town keeper, Tristan Thomas. Straight from the kick off Enfield took the lead. A long pass out to the left found Richard Ennin, As Thomas came out to clear the ball Ennin beat him to it and passed into the net from a tight angle. Five minutes later the scores were level. From a free kick wide on the right Town’s Jossiah Johnson curled in a dangerous cross, which eluded the defence and bounced home via cross bar and post.
Eight minutes after the break Amersham took the lead. The ball was cleared by the Enfield defence but was returned immediately with a high lob. Enfield goalkeeper and defender collided competing for the ball enabling Reon Thomas to nod the ball into the empty net. Five minutes later Town scored again. An early low cross found man of the match Wallace with his back to goal. He controlled the ball with one touch, turned and fired an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net. Eight minutes later Shallo, as he was challenged by Thomas, fumbled the ball allowing the Amersham forward to walk it into the net. Wallace, his confidence high, then tried a thirty five yard drive which bounced off the top of the crossbar. Two goals in five minutes ended the contest. First, Amersham’s Jack Aldridge hit a pass down the line to Joseph Madeinlo who carried the ball into the area and looped it cleverly over Shallo. There remained time for Enfield’s Ennin to hit home a penalty to complete the scoring.
