Amersham Town FC scores in £100K Buildbase bursary

Builders’ merchant Buildbase has awarded £10,000 worth of building materials to Amersham Town FC.

Following the club’s application to the "Buildbase Non-league Club Renovation Programme", Amersham Town -

along with nine other clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Vase competitions - will be awarded building materials to renovate its facilities.

Judges from Buildbase and the FA chose Amersham Town as one of the ten winners because of the great benefit the project would have on the club as well as its local community.

Amersham Town will renew and extend its 50-year-old kitchen to complement the recently refurbished clubhouse. Mike Gahagan, Amersham Town Welfare Officer explained:

“As well as a senior team currently playing in the Spartan South Midland League, the Club shares the facilities with Kings Church Amersham FC (KCAFC), providing football for 21 teams for local boys and girls. The club is constantly expanding and next season alone KCAFC will launch more teams for girls. We also hire out the clubhouse for events and to local clubs such as yoga, pilates and fitness, as well as host the occasional charity match. Each year KCAFC also runs a football festival for their more than 300 members.

“While we have invested heavily in our facilities to meet this growth including renovating our clubhouse, we did not have the money to refurbish the kitchen. The kitchen is now nearly fifty years old and was originally in my house build in 1975 and was moved to the club around 2000. As well as showing its age it is also too small for some of our catering needs.”

Simon Damery, Amersham Town Chairman, added: “Winning this bursary means a great deal. It will enable us to extend the kitchen, replace cupboards, work surfaces and appliances. It will ensure that we finally complete the renovation, providing an expanded, modern and hygienic facility.”

The local Oxford Buildbase branch will be supporting the club with information, advice and supplying the building products required for the project.

Martin Bull is Buildbase Procurement Director and was part of the judging panel. He said: “We had a huge response to our renovation competition this year. Amersham Town did a fantastic job of explaining how the bursary would be used and the effect of that on the wider community as well as on their ability to run as a business. We look forward to seeing how the project plays out over the coming months.”

Buildbase has been running a programme to transform the facilities of clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Vase competitions since it became the title sponsor of the FA Trophy and Vase in 2016.
