It was like the opening scene of Mcbeth at the start of this game: thunder and lightning lit up the sky and the rain pelted down.

Unfortunately the football didn’t quite match the pyrotechnics. With both sides struggling for points: chances were few and far between ‘though both sides tried to play their football in the dreadful conditions. The pitch was playable throughout, a complement to the work of Simon Damery on the surface.

London Tigers could have taken the lead in the third minute, following a slick move, but Town keeper Gary Malone, did well to deflect a shot just wide of the far post. The next chance fell to Amersham: Tigers keeper Salva Palacios and Shaun Stevens challenged for a cross from Reon Thomas and the ball lobbed towards the net but was headed off the line by a defender. Amersham’s goal arrived five minutes before the break. From a throw in on the right the ball was worked to Mikey Hagan whose low cross was met by Shaun Stevens running in at the far post to hammer the ball into the net.

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first as Amersham, as throughout the season, struggled to create chances. London Tigers came increasingly to the forefront and Gerard Martinez was unlucky to see a fierce shot pass just to the right of Malone’s post. At the other end Luke Symons broke through but his cross was headed out for a corner.

Tigers equalised on seventy five minutes. Amersham experienced their first sinbin of the season when Stevens was dismissed and it was during his absence from the field that Tigers scored. A quick counter attack down the left led to the winger pulling the ball back to Victor Jauregui on the penalty spot and he made no mistake. There was still time for another Tigers attack when Jauregui poked the ball past Malone towards the line but substitute Luke Beaumont was on hand to clear.

A point each was a fair result in a well contested game given the conditions.

Amersham Town: Malone, Symons, Mistretta, Seaton, Peacock, Aldridge, Madeinlo, Hagan, Thomas, Doumbia, Stevens. Subs: Beaumont, Johnson, Ankrah, Wallace, Clarke.
