Raunds Town 4 -3 Amersham Town

Amersham Town were never ahead in this game, fought back strongly from two behind but were unable to force a draw.

In the infinite wisdom of the Football Association restructuring of the Leagues at this level created a result which was precisely the opposite of what was intended. As a result of their decisions Amersham had to travel sixty miles for this fixture, one of several requiring long distance journeys.

Not surprisingly, Amersham started slowly and Oliver Keil in the Amersham goal had to pull off a couple of smart saves. Keil, however, could do little after fourteen minutes when a misplaced pass was intercepted and fed through to Harry Waple-Moors who shot home.

More misery for Amersham was to follow after thirty eight minutes when Geani Stanclu added to the home side’s lead. Amersham, however, came out more strongly in the second half and, after fifteen minutes play, Harry Bennett beat the Rounds offside trap and beat Sonny Jasper in the Raunds goal. Raunds quickly responded with goals of their own to restore their two goal lead.

With only five minutes remaining Amersham drew back to only a goal behind when first Harry Bennett added to his tally and then Conrad Holland scored the third. It was, however, two little and too late.

Amersham showed their strength of character and resilience in refusing to admit defeat until the final whistle. Manager James Hall and his coaching team, however, have some work to put in on their team’s defensive qualities having conceded nine goals in the last two games.

Next Saturday 11th September Amersham host high flying Winslow in the FA Vase in a game which promises entertainment.
